Comment for tengfei’s blog

Hello, tengfei!

I read your post and it’s a great article! First, you proved the importance of multimedia teaching with a small example. This example is very detailed and vivid, which reminds me that in my primary school, our teachers also used small methods like simple experiments to help us understand the classroom content. Secondly, you also expressed your opinion in the last point of the article, and you also quote the article of Meyer to make your argument stronger. Finally, your web page as a whole is beautifully crafted, organized and enjoyable to look at, and sometimes a good look is more stimulating to explore. To put it into a nutshell, this is a very good blog, hope you keep up your efforts.https://tengfei.opened.ca/2022/05/21/blog-1-topic-2/

Best wishes,

Multimedia and Interactive Learning

The significant of Multimedia learning

With the development of the modern electronic information technology, more and more people are working on education would like to use multimedia, which convenient and improve the learning efficiency to a certain extent. I still remember when I was a primary student, that was the first time I learned about it. Because up until then, the teaching method had been written on a blackboard. In order to renovate the whole teaching system, the school had also changed the structure of the classroom, installed large screens for each class. So that teachers could write on it, show slides, and even search relevant videos online to explain a difficult point. To some extent, the change of education mode had a positive impact on me, which was embodied in my willingness to spend more time on study. Multimedia teaching is indeed an important change in the history of education, vivid and interesting pictures can motivate students more than monotonous words, and the integration of all the information helps students to grasp the key points unconsciously (Mayer, R. E, 2020).

When I was in junior high school, a knowledge point in physics class was very confusing to me, because the explanation in books was very difficult to understand. Therefore, the teacher used the newly installed multimedia teaching materials to find a video, in which the principle and process of the results were easily explained by experiments. From then on, I used to search for relevant information on the Internet when I did not understand anything.

The popularization of multimedia

Through today’s study and my personal experience, I think multimedia teaching is a way that needs to be popularized. Not only in learning, digital information is closely related to our life, mobile phone is a good example. No matter I was in primary school, or now I am in university, it seems that more and more students around me are using iPad to record. In fact, it is also a kind of information sharing. After all, the Internet itself has turned the whole earth into a small global village. Various pictures and videos have enhanced the interaction between us and knowledge and encouraged students’ passion for learning to a great extent.

My first Blog

Actually, this is the first time I become a blogger, and I feel so excited.Blogging is also a great way to document my life. Before choosing this course, I noticed that it mainly explained how to interact with others and express my opinions on social media. I always think that learning every skill is not a waste of time, and today’s society is connected to the Internet. People use it everywhere, from a school that needs its own website to a country that has its own Internet system. The Internet has become the main channel for people to get the latest news, and it has a promising development trend as a new industry. Nowadays, the rapid rise of not only microblog but also short video industry is driving the rapid development of the entire Internet industry. Therefore, it is very necessary for us to learn knowledge in this area. Especially in the current international epidemic environment, the Internet is even more important. Not only can it be used for classes, but also people can only learn outside information and real-time changes of the epidemic situation through the Internet when there is no way to go abroad or even at home. It is hard to imagine how serious the impact on the international economy would have been had the outbreak occurred in the past, when the Internet was not developed. In the next two months, I will learn this course seriously and apply it to my future life and work.

Welcome and Introduction

Before proceeding with this first blog post, we expect you to consider your privacy preferences carefully and that you have considered the following options:

  1. Do you want to be online vs. offline?
  2. Do you want to use your name (or part thereof) vs. a pseudonym (e.g., West Coast Teacher)?
  3. Do you want to have your blog public vs. private? (Note, you can set individual blog posts private or password protected or have an entire blog set to private)
  4. Have you considered whether you are posting within or outside of Canada? This blog on opened.ca is hosted within Canada. That said, any public blog posts can have its content aggregated/curated onto social networks outside of Canada.

First tasks you might explore with your new blog:

  • Go into its admin panel found by adding /wp-admin at the end of your blog’s URL
  • Add new category or tags to organize your blog posts – found under “Posts” (but do not remove the pre-existing categories or sub-categories).  If you would like to add more course categories, please do so (e.g., add EDCI 306A with no space for Music Ed, etc.)
  • See if your blog posts are appearing on the course website (you must have the course categories assigned to a post first and have provided your instructor with your blog URL)
  • Add pages
  • Embed images or set featured images and embed video in blog posts and pages (can be your own media or that found on the internet, but consider free or creative commons licensed works)
  • Under Appearance,
    • Select your preferred website theme and customize to your preferences (New title, etc.)
    • Customize menus & navigation
    • Use widgets to customize blog content and features
  • Delete this starter post (or switch it to draft status if you want to keep for reference)

Do consider creating categories for each course that you take should you wish to document your learning (or from professional learning activities outside of formal courses). Keep note, however, that you may wish to use the course topic as the category as opposed to the course number as those outside of your program would not be familiar with the number (e.g., we use “Multimedia Learning” instead of “edci337).

Lastly, as always, be aware of the FIPPA as it relates to privacy and share only those names/images that you have consent to use or are otherwise public figures. When in doubt, ask us.
